The Massachusetts Mental Health Center (MMHC) seeks a licensed, board certified psychiatrist to provide psychopharmacologic treatment and clinical leadership in the outpatient clinic. The clientele are primarily adults cared for by the Department of Mental Health who experience a variety of difficulties including major mental illness, disruptions in attachments, trauma, poverty, substance abuse, homelessness, and involvement with the criminal justice system. Desirable qualifications include experience with the pharmacology of complex illness, psychiatric rehabilitation, and integration with physical health and wellness. Areas of responsibility can be tailored to the particular interests and expertise of the individual selected, but will involve clinical care, supervision/ teaching, administration, and program development.

About MMHC: From its home in Boston’s Longwood Medical Area, the Massachusetts Mental Health Center, the largest of the Department of Mental Health’s state-operated outpatient clinics, persists in its century-long mission of exemplary care, research, and training of young professionals. MMHC intentionally positions itself to provide integrated treatment to patient populations who are poorly served by the private sector. Service lines are in a constant state of development, adapting to the changing distribution of needs and diagnoses within the DMH population and the emergence of new evidence-based treatments. Unique programs include multidisciplinary teams dedicated to personality disorders, problematic sexual behaviors, young adults emerging from DCF or experiencing the first onset of a psychotic disorder, a co-located primary care clinic, and an emergency shelter.  Massachusetts Mental Health Center & Vinfen seeking a Full Time Psychologist in Boston  

 Job Description:  

Vinfen, in conjunction with the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health (DMH) and the Massachusetts Mental Health Center (MMHC), a state operated mental health clinic, is seeking a full-time licensed psychologist to join the transitional aged youth and Prevention and Recovery in Early Psychosis (PREP) Programs at their vibrant young adult community clinic. The psychologist would provide services to a culturally and economically diverse population of individuals ages 16-30, some of whom are experiencing the recent onset of a psychotic disorder. Responsibilities include performing cognitive, psychological, and psychosocial needs assessments, individual psychotherapy, and group treatment. The majority of individuals served have a serious and persistent mental illness and most predominant are psychotic, mood, and substance use disorders; trauma and attachment-related difficulties are also commonly treated. Candidates who possess substantial knowledge and experience conducting cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and psychosocial rehabilitation with this population, as well as those who have experience treating young adults and families in complex systems of care including DCF will be strongly preferred. This psychology position would be part of a well-established multi-disciplinary team, administratively embedded in the Massachusetts DMH.  

 The MMHC is affiliated with the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center Department of Psychiatry.  This position will provide opportunities for teaching and supervision along with appointment as Instructor or Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School. Opportunities to provide supervision of psychology interns within our APA-accredited pre-doctoral psychology internship are available.  

Scheduled hours: Mon- Fri. 8:30a-5p

Preferred Qualifications:  

 Licensed as a psychologist in Massachusetts

  • Three to five years of clinical experience.
  • Knowledge and experience working with adults with severe and persistent mental illness in a dynamic community setting
  • Knowledge and experience conducting cognitive and psychological assessments
  • Able to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience and interest in treating individuals from underserved/underrepresented groups including those whom are homeless and forensically involved
  • All candidates for this position must be at least 21 years of age and be able to successfully pass a CORI, reference and multi-state background and professional licensure check.

The ideal candidate will have a successful track record of program development, innovation, leadership, especially as an agent of change, as well as a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across multiple specialties.  Overall knowledge of Behavioral Health delivery models, standards of care as well as a deep understanding of integrative behavioral health is essential.  Exceptional clinical and interpersonal abilities are required as well as the ability to develop strong working relationships with both clinical and non-clinical staff.  7-10 years of progressive management and leadership experience in a large, multi-site delivery system as well as an advanced degree and familiarity with teaching programs and clinical research is preferred.

Job openings for brand-new inpatient units in Adult and Child Psychiatry

The Department of Psychiatry at North Shore Medical Center (NSMC), in affiliation with Massachusetts General Hospital (Mass General), has outstanding opportunities for full-time or part-time BC/BE psychiatrists. Potential opportunities include adult inpatient, CL, outpatient psychiatry, and Substance Use Disorders.

The newly created Epstein Center for Behavioral Health is a 120 bed inpatient facility that includes two adult units, one child and adolescent unit, and one geriatric unit, embedded in a full-service medical center. Each unit will include a team of social workers and a psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to support physicians, optimize workflow, and improve patient care.

Qualified candidates will receive a clinical appointment at both NSMC and Massachusetts General Hospital. The Department of Psychiatry at Mass General is consistently ranked among the best in the nation by U.S. News and World Report and works with NSMC as a community partner. There are multiple opportunities for teaching on-site, and a Tufts Medical School faculty appointment is available for physicians who participate in medical student teaching. There are also educational and research op- portunities at Mass General and Harvard Medical School for the appropriate interested candidate.
