Seeking Part Time Psychiatrist for South of Boston PACT Team

Vinfen, the largest provider of community based psychiatric rehabilitation services in Massachusetts, is seeking a Psychiatrist to work with our Program for Assertive Community Treatment (PACT) team to provide evidence based intensive home and community based services to adults with severe persistent mental illness who are pursuing goals of recovery. The Psychiatrist, in conjunction with the Team Leader, will have clinical responsibility for psychiatric and medical assessments as well as prescribing and monitoring the treatment of persons served. The Psychiatrist will also provide clinical supervision, education, and training to the interdisciplinary PACT team comprised of professionals with expertise in rehabilitation, counseling, nursing and social work. In addition, the psychiatrist will play a role in the development, maintenance, and supervision of medication and psychiatric and medical treatment policies and procedures.

The successful candidate will have:
• Valid license to practice medicine in Massachusetts required.
• Strong clinical skills and experience providing treatment to persons with severe and persistent mental illnesses.
• Experience in a related setting.
• Clinical supervisory experience; desirable but not required.
• Current Federal DEA and State Controlled Substances Certificates are required.
• Ability to successfully pass a CORI, reference, multi-state background, and professional licensure check.
• Ability to complete CPR certification training within 2 weeks of employment and complete PACT Module Training within 3 months of hire if not already trained.

Job Summary
Provides diagnostic and psychiatric assessments and out-patient psychotherapy/ psychopharmacology for patients with mental health issues (individual and crisis intervention). Participates in weekday and weekend urgent care and after-hours on-call urgent care coverage. Provides outreach and consultation with University administrators. As needed, supervises and trains psychiatric residents and psychiatric nurse practitioners. Provides training and consultation to the social workers and psychologists on staff as a member of a team within CAMHS. Provides after-hours on-call consultations to patients who are served in the Behavioral Health department. Serves on HUHS/CAMHS committees at the request of the Chief of CAMHS.

Job-Specific Responsibilities

  • Facilitates the clinical management of patients through the process of evaluation, diagnosis, consultation, and referral to the appropriate resources.
  • Identifies and monitors high-risk patients and expedites an individualized crisis management plan.
  • Develops and maintains mechanisms to assure continuity of care for individuals in acute distress.
  • Develops and maintains mechanisms to assure continuity of care for individuals in acute distress.
  • Assists and participates in the development of treatment plans consistent with the policies and procedures of CAMHS.
  • Psychopharmacology: Provide psychopharmacological treatment/support for patients and prescribes psychotropic medications listed in the HUHS formulary.
  • As needed, supervises psychiatry residents and provides training to social work and psychology interns.
  • Works in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Participates in weekday and weekend urgent care and after-hours on-call services.


  • Coordinates outpatient visits to ensure timely access to appropriate services.
  • Documents all patient contacts accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Responds to secure messages that are initiated by patients and other providers within HUHS.

Community Outreach:

  • As requested, provides education and outreach to the community both in Harvard College and within the larger University.

Basic Qualifications

  • Board Certified in Adult or Child Psychiatry.
  • M.D. and licensed to practice in Massachusetts.

Additional Qualifications

  • Minimum of 4 years' recent experience in a psychiatric college/university setting.
  • Demonstrated work experience in the following areas preferred:
    • Assessment/treatment of adolescents, adults, and children; eating disorders; awareness of issues pertaining to students from other cultures; student health issues; urgent care and crisis management; outreach and consultation in a university setting.
  • Substantial experience and authoritative knowledge of clinical principles and practices.
  • Experience in clinical management, supervision, quality assurance, continuous improvement, utilization management, and understanding complex organization, financial, and management issues.
  • Demonstrated skills in effective communication, negotiation, leadership, and teaching.
  • Demonstrated commitment to high quality, cost-effective health care and research in a large multidisciplinary prepaid group practice.
