The Massachusetts Psychiatric Society (MPS) will host its a
nnual Risk Avoidance and Risk Management Conference on
This is the annual risk management conference with a success ful record spanning decades. The conference focuses on actual issues faced by practicing psychiatrists. Each year core faculty review timely and relev ant risk management issues in conjunction with other invited local experts. We utilize several didactic lectures with significant time for questions r aised by conference attendees. This year topics addressed will include: Dr. Janet Wozniak addressing risk management issues in the practice of telepsy chiatry; Dr. Thomas Gutheil will review the practice of appropriately addre ssing informed consent and shifting regulatory requirements; Attorney David Gould will address the issue of psychiatrists managing actions by the Mass achusetts Board of Registration in Medicine; our own Attorney James Hilliar d will enlighten us with the top risk management questions and issues raise d by membership for 2021; Attorney Steve O’Neill will give direction on nav igating the new world of open notes in medical practice; and Dr. Nhi-Ha Tri nh will present on the emerging focus on cultural competence and implicit b ias, and strategies for self-assessment and practice improvement. Each spea ker will have a significant block of dedicated time for facilitated questio ns from the participants.
